FUNBOARD SURFBOARDS
The funboard surfboard takes shape in various forms and has been designed to be enjoyed by all types of surfers in all types of conditions. Most of these types of shapes are very forgiving and provide a very stable platform for the beginner while at the same time providing a solid and secure ride for those who don't want to be on a longboard surfboard or don't enjoy struggling with often under sized performance short boards either.
These boards may vary in shape and size but they all have "volume" in common (being = length, width and thickness) which allows the board to float well and often carry or support slower or heavier types of surfers. OLD AND NEW This particular type of surfboard was born out of necessity in the late 80's and early 90's as standard board widths grew narrower and thicknesses were reduced to levels that suited only fly weights or the super fit. While many surfers struggled through this period to enjoy their surfing the funboard surfboard became the go to board for everything in between hi performance and what was considered at the time to be "old age" longboarding or logging. More often than not funboards were shaped somewhat like a mini longboard but with a narrower nose width and sizes generally hung around the 7'6'' mark but today they can be as small as 6'8'' or 6'10'' and as long as 7'10'' or 8'0''. The funboard surfboard is a nice blend of old and new, long and short and should be a serious contender in anyone's quiver even if only to have as a spare when a friend comes asking to borrow a board. |
