Longboards and Longboarding
Longboards and longboarding have come a long way since the early days of Malibu, Rincon, Cape St Francis, Byron Bay and Noosa and while the art of longboarding is still as sweet as it ever was a more progressive attack has modernized the longboard surfboard shape. Many hardcore longboarders still love to surf them traditionally but the new and younger breed now demand hi performance boards that can be thrown around at will and still perform traditional manoeuvres like hanging ten toes over or opposite drop knee turns.
Mini Longboards or Mini Mals The mini-longboard is as the name suggests is simply a smaller version of the everyday longboard with the same or similar qualities that make surfing them popular. Usually they are between 7' 6'' (although can be shorter) and 8' 6'' in size and are a very stable board, good for beginners and surfers who want to enjoy just getting among the waves. These types of boards provide a stable platform to learn from while maintaining nice features and balanced thickness making them a versatile board for all round surfing. They are a great asset for any skill level and are the perfect machine for helping friends get into surfing or just to have as a spare for when someone needs to borrow a board. Boards in this size range often prove their worth by being adaptable to various wave sizes. |
